Power Loss DNFs Larson at Placerville
Calistoga Midgets Up Next
Placerville, CA. August 23, 2008. For the second race in a row Kyle Larson and the
Vertullo Racing team experienced horsepower related problems that caused the driver of the
83v CRV Racing Products/Eagle/Kistler
mount to drop from the feature event, this time during the Placerville Speedway Hoosier
Racing Tire Championship 360 Sprint Car point series. During the Califorina Civil War
series event two weeks ago at Calistoga Speedway the same fate befell the 16 year old
driver who sits second in Civil War points.
At Calistoga the gremlins persisted all night long, but at Placerville things began with
everything in order as Larson qualified 10th quick of the 28 cars on hand. He turned a
fourth place heat race start into a strong run to second, which transferred him into the
ninth spot on the grid for the 25 lap main event.
As the race got underway Larson followed two of the best veterans in the business, Sammy Swindell and Tyler
Walker, as the trio moved in tandem to the front. But, after a lap eight restart, Larson
could feel the car begin to sputter on the take off and knew the problem had returned.
After another restart saw the engine lag Larson headed up the backstretch ramp, out of the
race on lap 10. He was scored 18th in the final results as Swindell charged
from 11th to take the exciting win.
This coming weekend Larson will return to Calistoga Speedway to race for the first time
with the USAC Western States Midgets in a two night double division set
of shows that also includes the USAC/CRA 410 sprint cars. Excitement and interest has been
building for this event as it will feature the non wing sprint cars at Calistoga for the
first time since 1985. Larson will pilot the Cliff Blackwell midget at the big half mile,
in a team car to the one the high school junior drove at the 2008 Chili Bowl and in late
May at Placerville Speedway.
