Kyle Larson Participates In Tony Hunts
Race For A Reason
Annual Event Benefits Make-A-Wish
Sacramento, CA. February 10, 2008. Sprint Car Driver Kyle Larson joined the fun for the
fourth year in a row at the
RPM-Race Place Motorsports Indoor Karting Facility as Tony Hunt hosted the sixth annual
Race for a Reason event to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation for Sacramento and
Northeastern California. Twenty-two teams competed, with a celebrity driver heading each
five person team assembled.
Hunt, a five time USAC Western States Sprint Car champion, captained one team while Larson
headed another. Among the other celebrity drivers on hand were rally racer and
drifting driver Tanner Faust, road racing star Joey Hand, drag racer Gary Ormsby, Jr., and
three time USAC Silver Crown Champion Jimmy Sills.
Larsons
team consisted of drivers he was very familiar with from his years of racing outlaw karts.
The veteran of the group was long time outlaw kart star and sometime sprint car driver
Daniel Becker, 360 spec sprint car driver R.C. Smith, late model driver Mackena Bell, and
mini-sprint, midget and soon to be sprint car driver Colby Copeland.
Three segments were used to determine the overall winning team qualifying, the
pit-stop challenge, and the
final 45 minute enduro. Larsons team won the enduro main event and finished fourth
in the qualifying. The weak link in the groups effort was the 15th place finish in
the pit stop challenge that required teams to simulate a pit stop, including changing both
right side tires on a former Randy LaJoie Busch Series stock car.
The three combined segments placed Larsons team sixth in the final tally, while
James Sweeneys team was crowned the overall champions. Thanks to Hunts and RPM
owner Brent Webbs efforts a record amount of $25,759.00 was collected, with 100% of
the proceeds benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
