Late Race Misfortune Halts Larson At Marysville Civil War Go
Marysville, CA July 7, 2007. All signs pointed to another top ten finish for Kyle
Larson as the main event laps wound down during round number seven of the 360 sprint car
Civil War Series. However, with the very rough track conditions as they were at Marysville
Raceway Park, anything was possible as to where cars might be headed while on the gas.
Such was the case for the 14 year old driver from Elk Grove, California as he became the
victim of contact between two drivers fighting for position just ahead, leaving no place
to avoid race ending damage to his own mount. As a result, what looked like an eighth
place finish or better became 18th in the final results.
Larson
started the night off by qualifying his Dave and Debbie Vertullo ParkerStore/CRV Racing
Products/Eagle Kistler 12th of the 36 entries. He turned a fourth place starting spot in
the fourth heat into a fast closing second, fighting off Civil War point leader Andy
Forsberg in the early stages of the race. He started the 30 lap feature in 12th and had
moved as high as sixth in the middle stages of the race. After Mike Henry got by on lap 20
Larson settled into eighth. As Henry attempted to pass fast time qualifier Jeremy Burt in
turn four of lap 22 contact ensued and Burts front end collapsed,
sending him directly into the path of the oncoming car of Larson. With major front end and
wing damage Larsons run was done. It happened so fast, I just couldnt
avoid hitting Burt. Said Larson. The track was real rough out there tonight
but I had a good run going. Ive been here three times now and have been fast each
time but something always seems to prevent a top finish. Weve got one more Civil War
race here in September, so hopefully it will all come together then.
