Race: Januayr 28, 2006LARSON REPEATS AT LAKEPORT
Lakeport, CA Parkerstore Outlaw Sprint Kart driver Kyle Larson won his second 500cc
Open division main event in a row at the Lakeport Indoor Speedway as he held off the
advances of fellow Corning Ford
and Broken Bow Records
sponsored drivers, 10 year old All Star Tour Box Stock Champion Tyler Reddick and All Star
Tour Open Champion Pistol Pete Johnston. Also, for the second week in a row, Larson drove
his 250cc powered kart to a fourth place finish in that division.
Larson qualified fourth of the 21 open karts assembled and
started on the pole of the trophy dash. Larson led every lap to earn the pole for the
A-Main. At the start of the feature track point leader Scott Sabol got the advantage over
Larson coming out of turn four and led the opening 14 laps as the duo pulled away from the
rest of the field. About lap 10 Sabol began to lose the ability to hold the bottom of the
racetrack and Larson was about ready to take his ParkerStore/Grandpa George Motors/QRC
Factory kart underneath Sabol, when he half spun on lap 14 exiting turn two. Larson had to
brake hard and veer to the infield to avoid contact but the winning pass was made as the
race continued. Over the next 16 laps Tyler Reddick began to use his 576cc KTM powerplant
to get in position to challenge Larson. As Reddick had to fight off sixth starting
Johnston, Larson opened a slight advantage that carried him to the checkered flag.
I n the 250cc intermediate division Larson qualified fifth of 25
karts and finished second in the fourth heat. He lined his Team FBR powered mount ninth on
the feature grid. By lap nine he had moved to fourth and was the only kart moving forward
as Mikey Lovell, Chase Johnson and Reddick set the pace. The four maintained their places
to the lap 30 checkered as Lovell also won for the second week in a row.
Larson said after taking the open checkered, I buzzed my tires on the start and gave
Sabol the break he needed. But as the race went on I knew I could get him back. I could
see the more laps we ran he was opening the door on the bottom. I was ready to move under
him when he got sideways and then I thought we were both goners. But somehow I got by and
kept the lead. My kart setup was perfect the last two weeks here and I sure would like to
take this momentum back to Red Bluff next week.
