LARSON SALVAGES SIXTH PLACE FINISH WITH DAMAGED KART

Red Bluff, CA – Despite a broken frame and bent rear axel ParkerStore Outlaw12-03-05-021.jpg (73104 bytes) Sprint Kart driver Kyle Larson was able to survive the maladies and race to a sixth place finish in the 500cc Open Intermediate Main event Saturday December 3rd at the Red Bluff Winter Indoor Series inside the Pauline Davis Pavilion here. Larson also once again sub drove for the injured Max Adams in the 125/250 Intermediate Division and captured a third in the Main event.

Larson qualified his ParkerStore/Grandpa George Motors/QRC Factory Kart fourth in the 23 kart Open Intermediate field. He started fifth in the first heat and was only able to garner a fourth place finish, relegating him to the B-Main event. Next up was the trophy dash and Larson came from third starting to finish second. He started on the pole of the B-Main and led every lap to transfer into the feature race.

Larson started 10th and moved into seventh on the first lap and advanced to fourth on lap two when James Sweeney, Dillon Silverman and Justin Grant (sub driving for basketball tournament bound point leader Mason Moore) got together on the back straight. Larson held fourth behind leader Garrett Mills until lap 10 when Jonny Lentz got by. Larson battled Lentz over the next five laps as the duo closed in on third place Derek Copeland. On lap 15 Lentz attempted to pass Copeland coming out of turn four but the pair touched. Lentz veered into Larson’s path and the ParkerStore mount jumped Lentz’ left fron12-03-05-046.jpg (74490 bytes)t and came down hard, breaking the frame and bending the rear axel. Copeland was able to continue on in third with Larson holding onto his bouncy ride in fourth, as Lentz was done with a broken tie rod end. Larson maintained control of his kart over the next four laps and still held fourth when the yellow appeared setting up a one lap dash to the checkered. As the field came out of turn four to restart fifth place Andrew Cumpton tapped Larson from behind, sending him into a half spin. He was able to recover after Cumpton and Alissa Geving got by and was credited with a sixth place finish as Mills led every lap for the win.

The ParkerStore hotshoe commented after the races “I had a fast kart tonight and was running right with the leaders. The track was hard to pass on again tonight and I was doing everything I could to get by Copeland and Lentz kind of snuck by me. When they had contact I thought I could get by both of them but I just barely clipped Jonny. I knew I bent the axel when I came down but I had no idea the frame was broken. It didn’t make things any better when I got turned on the last restart. But that is the kind of racing you get on Red Bluff’s little bullring. We’ll come back next week with a new frame and run the last All Star Tour race of 2005. I’m in fourth in the 500cc Open Division and still have a chance to win the championship. All I have to do is finish better than 12th in the B-main of the 125/250 divison and I’ll wrap up my third All Star Tour Championship and ninth overall. I’m really looking forward to this one.”
