MISFORTUNE STRIKES LARSON AT RED BLUFF
FLIPS ON OPENING LAP OF FEATURE
Red Bluff, California After a recent string of top finishes that saw ParkerStore
Outlaw Sprint Kart driver Kyle Larson move to second in the points, misfortune appeared as
the little hotshoe suffered a flip in the first turn of the feature race. Although Larson
returned to the race two laps down he was only able to gain one spot in the order and was
scored 12th as point leader Mason Moore won his second A-Main of the Red Bluff Winter
Indoor Series. Larson also sub drove Max Adams kart in the 125/250 Intermediate
Division and set fast time before settling for a second place finish behind Thomas
Breckenstein in the A-Main.
Larson qualified third quick of the 24 karts in the 500cc Open Intermediate Divison and
started fifth in the third heat. Larson found himself still in fifth with two laps to go but got by Jonny Lentz in turn
four and then caught Derek Copeland, making a daring pass in turn three and four to nab
the final transfer spot into the A-Main behind winner Robert Marcos and runnerup Camron
Mendes. Larson lined up fourth for the six kart six lap trophy dash and drove his
ParkerStore/Grandpa George Motors/QRC Factory Kart to a third place finish../galleries/ behind Lentz and Dillon Silverman.
The A-Main saw Larson start third as polesitter Moore and Jake Park filled the front row.
As the green flag flew Larson dove into turn one only to have his throttle stick open.
Larson, hard on the brakes and trying to regain control of his kart, clipped the inside
berm and did a relatively soft rollover to bring out the red flag. As
Larsons crew tried to determine the source of the sticking throttle the race went
green. A yellow flag was displayed two laps later and Larson was able to re-enter the
race, hoping for attrition to improve his standing. However, only Kenny McArthur exited
the race as Larson ended up 12th with Moore getting the win over Keith Bloom and Park.
After the race Larson said, Its pretty disappointing to have a throttle stick,
but we found some dirt had gotten into the cable opening and that was causing it to hang
up. My crew sprayed lubricant all over the linkage and it was better but still had me
concerned. I just wish we could have had them hold up the race for one more lap because
the kart was really fast even with the messed up wing and bent tie rod.
