LARSON HAS TOUGH NIGHT AT CYCLELAND
Chico, CA ParkerStore Outlaw Sprint Kart driver Kyle Larson experienced his most
trying night of the Cycleland Speedway season as incidents in both the 125/250cc
Intermediate and 500cc Open Intermediate mains led to sub par finishes for the 13 year old
driver from Elk Grove, CA. Although Larson had a wall banging incident while running
second in the 125/250 race, he rebounded for an eighth place finish and actually increased
his point lead over seventh place Mason Moore, who fought back with a flat left front tire
after an early race tangle. In the 500 Intermediate race fourth place Larson first hit a
spinning Keith Bloom on lap three and sustained major damage to the right front corner of
his kart. He restarted at the rear only to have his kart veer wildly toward the exit gate
and slam backwards into the hay bales protecting the area, ending his night. His large
point lead was reduced significantly as Moore won the event while Bloom came back to
finish fifth.
Larson qualified third of the 25 125/250 karts on hand and finished second to fast
qualifier Thomas Bruckenstein in the trophy dash. He started his ParkerStore/Predator
Motors/QRC Factory Kart sixth in the feature and quickly moved into third on the first
lap. On lap three Larson got by Kenny Allen for second and he then began to close on
leader Sean Martin. Larson shadowed Martin until lap 15 when he allowed his kart to catch
the turn one fence where the kart rode up the wall and gyrated wildly but never executed a
complete flip. Although he sustained heavy damage to his rear bumper Larson restarted at
the tail and came back to eighth at the checkered, while Kenny Allen got by Martin on the
18th lap and won his first 125/250 race at Cycleland.
Larson qualified his ParkerStore/Grandpa George Motors/QRC Factory Kart first with a time
of 11.365 over 26 karts. He placed fifth in the dash to earn the ninth starting place in
the main. At the end of lap one Larson was already up to fourth and closing fast on the
lead pack, led by Jake Park. But on lap three second place Bloom spun in turn four and
Larson had nowhere to go and nailed second in points Bloom with a hard impact. Both
restarted at the back but Larsons race ended in the turn one hay bales, while Bloom
recovered to place fifth. Moore took the lead from Park on lap 13, went on to win and
moved into second in points, 11 points behind Larson. Bloom dropped to third in points but
closed to within 12 of the ParkerStore chauffeur.
After the race Larson commented, I dont think we have ever had a night like
this while running two divisions. I know this is the most damage we have ever had in one
night. I just messed up the 125/250 race and drifted into the wall and I couldnt get
off of it. It was a wild ride and Im really lucky we didnt do more damage to
that kart. In the 500 kart I was just in the wrong place when Keither spun and it hurt the
kart more than I thought. I expected that I could carry it around and at least finish the
race but as soon as I let off the gas it just turned right and I was into the hay bales
before I knew it. The ride into the hay didnt do any damage but the frame was killed
on the right front when I hit Bloom. That was the same frame that we had to weld at
Knoxville and luckily this was going to be the last race on it anyways. This week my dad
will put together another kart and Im sure we will be fast at the All Star Tour race
at Carson City, Nevada before we come back here for the $1,000 to win QRC Cup/Showcase
Race Tuesday night September 6 when the World of Outlaws are here in Chico for the Gold
Cup.
