LARSON STAYS STEADY AT CYCLELAND
Chico, CA ParkerStore Outlaw Kart driver Kyle Larson experienced his first weekend
since May 7th without a feature win as action moved back to Cycleland Speedway south of
Chico, CA on Saturday June 4th. However, the little leadfoot still had satisfying results
as he finished second in the 125/250cc intermediate division and garnered a third in the
500cc open intermediate main event.
Larson set fast time in the 125/250 intermediate division over the 28 karts on hand with a
lap of 12.043. He then finished fourth in the trophy dash to put him in the eighth
starting place for the A-main. As the feature began Larson rapidly advanced his
ParkerStore/Predator Motors/QRC Factory kart into fourth by lap two. On lap four he passed
Tyler Reddick to take over second, behind leader Thomas Bruckenstein. By lap nine Larson
had pulled even with Bruckenstein down the frontstretch but was unable to complete the
pass. Bruckenstein fought back and repelled the yellow mount of Larsons before
opening up a three kart length lead which he held to the lap 20 checkered. Bruckenstein,
the 2003 division champion at Cycleland, captured his first win of the season.
Larson timed in fourth fast of 28 karts in the 500cc open intermediates with the exact
time (12.043) he got in the 125/250 division. At the start of the six kart six lap trophy
dash Larsons chain jumped off as soon as he accelerated ending his hopes to advance
his starting spot in the A-main. As a result, Larsons ParkerStore/Grandpa George
Motors/QRC Factory Kart began the feature in tenth. By lap three he had moved to seventh
and by lap eight he was up to fourth. On lap 11 he got by Brian Southers to advance into
third, but that was as far to the front that he could get as James Sweeney got the win
over Larsons nearest pursuer in the points, Keith Bloom.
At the end of the night Larson commented I wish I could have won a main tonight but
the competition here is so tough and the track was a little too good on the bottom tonight
so that made passing almost impossible on top, where I like to run. But to get a second
and a third is nothing to be disappointed about because the championship in both divisions
is what we are after. Also, Im really looking forward to the All Star Tour race here
this coming Friday because I get to race with all the top 500cc Open drivers because the
Tour combines the open intermediate and open divisions together. Hopefully, I can have
another good night and close the point gap or maybe take over the point lead from Pistol
Pete Johnston.
