Flat Tire and Tommy Tipover Hamper Promising Start To Larson’s USAC Midget Debut

2011-04-23DodgeCityUSAC-143.jpg (92207 bytes)
Dodge City, Kansas. April 22 and 23, 2011. Looking to start the quest for a run at the United States Auto Club Mopar Midget National Championship on a positive note, Elk Grove, California’s Kyle Larson appeared to be doing just that as he ran second to defending titlist Bryan Clauson in the season opener at Dodge City Raceway Park on Friday night. However, with just a handful of laps left a flat right rear tire ended any hopes for a top finish. Appearing to rebound in the second night of the Duel at Dodge City doubleheader, Larson drove from 14th starting to battle for fourth when contact with a lapped car sent the 18 year old into a spin and resulting lazy tipover. Antioch, California. April 9, 2011. Continuing a trend begun in several recent World of Outlaws events, Kyle Larson charged from deep in the field of the feature race Saturday night at the inaugural Golden State King of the West Series at Antioch Speedway. In a thrilling drive to the front the defending King of California took the lead from former two time Golden State champ Jonathan Allard on lap 18 and appeared to be on his way to win number four of the 2011 campaign. Hanford and Tulare, California – March 18 & 19, 2011. Chico, CA – March 12, 2011. On his way to a solid top ten finish in the World of Outlaws sanctioned Mini Gold Cup Saturday at Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway, 2010 King of California Kyle Larson never would have expected that his forward progress from 15th starting would be stymied while stopped under a red flag. However, with only nine laps left seventh running Larson was in the wrong place when a brakeless Bill Rose found the 18 year olds mount, which was parked on the front straight. Tulare, CA. April 10, 2010. Although Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway is Kyle Larson’s favorite racetrack, it hasn’t always been kind to the 17 year old from Elk Grove, California. As a testament to that fact 2009 saw two bone jarring crashes there, both of which were the result of others changing their line suddenly as Larson entered turn one. However, fortunes turned around greatly Saturday night as Larson got his first win at the Central Valley track and his second in Golden State Challenge 410 competition as the series held round number three in the season long title chase... Finally, on Saturday night Larson and the rest of the Golden State Challenge Series contingent were able to get some racing out of their system as the touring group debuted at Placerville Speedway. With windy, ominous weather that produced a rubber down race track at the 18th Annual 360 Pacific Sprint Fall Nationals at Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway Saturday night, prospects for Kyle Larson moving forward from his 12th place starting position did not look very good. Add in the fact that he was nursing a car that was subjected to a broken left front shock from the outset of the race, Larson was just trying to keep his mount headed in the right direction. Top performances every time he hit the high speed 1/3 mile race track were highlighted by the 16 year old driver’s first podium finish with the GSC... Kyle Larson Racing Press Release

A newly reshaped race track at Antioch Speedway greeted the drivers of the Golden State Challenge Series in round number two for the premier 410 sprint car series on the West Coast. For some drivers the changes might have required some adjustments, but for Rookie of the Year contender Kyle Larson, the visit was his first chance to ever race at the facility. While many found the track to be quite tricky on a very slick surface, Larson was a quick study as he found the racing groove early and charged past nine cars in the feature event on his way to a seventh place finish.  Kyle Larson Racing press release

Larson’s Flat Tire Leads to 13th Place Finish In Placerville Golden State Challenge Opener
Placerville, CA. March 28, 2009. 2009-03-28gsc-pville_4196.jpg (172818 bytes)Action packed Placerville Speedway is known to produce a little mayhem now and then, and, as the Golden State Challenge Series opened their season Saturday night at the foothill facility, several top drivers experienced significant race ending damage to their cars. While Rookie of the Year contender Kyle Larson was able to take the checkered flag, he was not unscathed on his way to a 13th place finish, as a flat front tire brought issues that caused the 16 year old driver to spend several laps in the work area... Larson Scores Sixth In Nor-Cal Season Opener At Marysville Raceway Park

MRP_Open_360_136.JPG (242905 bytes)
Marysville, CA – March 7, 2009. Although there weren’t the dramatics of getting a last second ride like he did at this year’s Chili Bowl, Kyle Larson did find himself in an unfamiliar machine for the opening of the 2009 Northern California sprint car season. While the newly reconfigured Marysville Raceway Park held the Spring Sprint Car Open for 360 sprint cars, Larson teamed with veteran car owner Harley Van Dyke. Even though the pairing was a first for the duo, the results followed a pattern much like the 16 year old driver’s 2008 campaign, when he made several spectacular runs from the back in A-main events.  MAJ1K Motorsports press release

Larson Closes Season with Fourth at Trophy Cup

wpe34.jpg (30127 bytes)
Tulare, CA – October, 23, 24, 25, 2008. Kyle Larson’s sophomore season of racing sprint cars came to a conclusion with perhaps his highlight of the 2008 campaign as the 16 year old driver from Elk Grove, California capped three days of racing at the 15th Annual Trophy Cup at Thunderbowl Raceway. When the checkered flag fell at the end of what many observers claimed was the most competitive Trophy Cup ever, Larson had done his part to add to the excitement by doing what he is fast becoming known for, a late race charge forward which resulted in a hard fought fourth place finish against many of the best sprint car drivers in the country. Larson Takes Top Five From 24th At Chico Fall Nationals

wpe26.jpg (23921 bytes)
Calistoga and Chico, CA, August 30 – September 6, 2008. Getting the opportunity to drive three different types of race cars in one week, Kyle Larson had flashes of eye opening competitiveness and mild disappointment as the young driver stepped onto the two biggest stages of the Northern California summer racing season, the USAC Louie Vermeil Classic at Calistoga Speedway and the World of Outlaws Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. While Calistoga ended on a downer as the 16 year old driver could not compete on the second night due to a stubborn car that would not fire, making the B-Main event at the Gold Cup had to be considered as another rung up the ladder in the development of the youthful driver. Sandwiched in between was another patented run from the back of the pack of a 360 Civil War race, when Larson opened the Gold Cup on Wednesday night... ParkerStore Article

Third At Placerville Civil War Keeps Larson In Title Chase
Another run from deep in the pack for birthday boy
wpe1D.jpg (29520 bytes)
Placerville, CA. August 2, 2008. If passing points were a component of the Hoosier Tire California 360 Sprint Car Civil War Series Kyle Larson might have a pretty comfortable point lead at this point. With previous Civil War runs at Placerville (C-main to A-main), Calistoga (19th to sixth), and Petaluma (17th to fifth), added to last Saturday’s charge from 15th to third at Placerville, Larson is quickly earning a reputation as a driver who will find a way to the front. And despite point leader Sean Becker taking the win from third starting, Larson, who celebrated his 16th birthday two days prior, was able to stay solidly in second place in points after round 10 of the season long 15 race series. The soon to be high school junior is now trailing by eight points.

Both wins in the series for the youngster have come at the Chico speed plant. After losing his original fifth starting spot in the main event due to being involved in a lap one skirmish, 15 year old Larson twice came from the back on the pack, making 18 green flag passes on a very narrow, mostly single file race track, in the span of the first 23 laps. Rain and Hail Stop Opening Civil War Race at Placerville
March 15, 2008 - The 83v team engine arrived Friday afternoon and final preparations were made Saturday morning. The effort was for naught as the weather took an unfortunate turn and caused cancellation of the event.

MAJ1K Motorsports would like to express their appreciation to the Vertullos, and the other teams who offered their resources, in getting Kyle ready to be on the track.

Thank you again for your generosity
