Dave Robinson is a two time champion of the highly competitive Civil War sprint car
series, which races on dirt tracks throughout California. At the height of his career, he
stepped away from racing to spend more time with his two children. It was no surprise that
his children would turn to racing, since they had been around the sport their entire
lives. Over the past two years, both kids have won championships in go karts. And less
than a month ago, Dave returned to racing with the wholehearted support of his family. He
went back to the team he had left and, in almost Cinderella fashion, almost won the first
race he ran, finishing second.
Kyle Larson isn't old enough to drive himself to the racetrack, but is one of the youngest
winners in local sprint car racing. Like many kids that end up in oval track racing, the
now 15 year old Kyle started racing go karts when he was five. But the latest karts he
drove are not toys. With 600 cc motorcycle engines, they are powerful broadsliding
machines raced on dirt. Larson graduated to sprint cars two years ago and last summer
became the youngest driver in the 40 year history of Placerville Speedway to win a main
event, capturing a very competitive race in the Civil War series.
