Larson Scores Twin Top Tens In Milwaukee USAC Features
Milwaukee, Wisconsin June 18, 2011. Running on a one mile paved track for the first
time at the historic Milwaukee Mile last Saturday Elk Grove, California 18 year old Kyle
Larson continued to impress with his ability to handle new experiences in his rookie
season of USAC racing. This time Larson set fast time and placed the Keith Kunz
Motorsports/IWX Motor Freight Beast on the pole for the TRAXXAS Silver Crown 100. With
virtually no paved track experience until just a few weeks ago, the accomplishment marked
the youngsters completion of a trifecta by placing all three cars of USACs top
divisions Silver Crown, Sprint Car, and Midget in the fast time slot the
first time he drove the various machines on the surface.
The Silver Crown race itself was eventful as Larson battled at the front with Bobby East
and Tanner Swanson in the early going. He remained in the top three until the three
quarter mark when he spun in turn two attempting to get underneath Swanson. As East pulled
away in dominating fashion after the restart Larson was on the charge from the rear as he
fought back to fourth in the closing laps. With his tires used up Larson crossed the line
sixth as he fell to Bobby Santos III and Jacob Wilson just prior to the checkered.
Unfortunately for Larson, he was placed eighth in the final rundown due to not lining up
in the proper order after his earlier spin.
In the USAC Mopar National Midget division Larson drove the Kunz Motorsports/Toyota Racing Development mount to ninth
quick time. Over the course of the 25 lap event Larson coped with a race long loose
condition and salvage a 10th place finish as Darren Hagen drove from ninth to win the
feature.
Larson now turns his attention to another new venue as the USAC Silver Crown and Midget
series invade Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa this Friday night. The Silver Crown race will
again be contested over a 100 lap distance on the 7/8 mile asphalt track, while the
midgets will try something different as they will run two 25 laps feature events. The
races will run in two segments, with the first prior to the Silver Crown race and the
second segment run after the conclusion.
