LARSON BECOMES STANDOUT SUBSTITUTE
California's Kyle Larson didn't realize he'd be racing on Friday night until the
performing of the National Anthem. The selected sub for an ill Jerry Higbie Jr., Larson
borrowed a driver suit from USAC regular Chad Boat, a HANS device from five-star Bryan
Clauson, and other equipment to strap in and put on arguably the biggest performance of
his career.
Larson (pictured) finished third in his heat race and transferred all the way to the
A-Main before a mechanical issue relegated him to a last place finish.
Still, the last second showing (he came to Tulsa as a spectator only) was one to be
remembered. He'll again pilot the Bryan Clauson Inc./Corey Tucker Racing midget on
Saturday in place of Higbie in hopes of reaching another improbable A-Main.

KYLE LARSON, Elk Grove (CA)
Not quite Roberto Moreno, but Larson's substitution for Jerry Higbie Jr. at Corey Tucker
Racing was certainly super. The California kid reached the A-Main on Friday but failed to
get out of the D-Main on Saturday. For someone who wasn't expecting to race at all this
week, his frantically put-together showing was quite a head-turner.
