November 19, 2005 ~MISFORTUNE STRIKES LARSON AT RED BLUFF - FLIPS ON OPENING LAP OF FEATURE
Red Bluff, California – After a recent string of top finishes that saw ParkerStore Outlaw Sprint Kart driver Kyle Larson move to second in the points, misfortune appeared as the little hotshoe suffered a flip in the first turn of the feature race. Although Larson returned to the race two laps down he was only able to gain one spot in the order and was scored 12th as point leader Mason Moore won his second A-Main of the Red Bluff Winter Indoor Series. Larson also sub drove Max Adams’ kart in the 125/250 Intermediate Division and set fast time before settling for a second place finish behind Thomas Breckenstein in the A-Main.  ParkerStore Article Now Posted Click Here

By finishing third to winner Dillon Silverman in the 500cc Open Intermediate main event Larson was able to chip away once again at point leader Mason Moore’s margin. Going into the feature race Moore led Larson by 26 points, but a steering malfunction caused a last place finish for Moore and closed the gap to 16 points.

Kyle also drove Justyn Cox’s kart in the 125/250 division as a sub driver when Cox was unable to attend. Kyle qualified fourth quick of the 21 karts on hand. He won the first heat from third starting and finished fifth in the trophy dash. Larson started from the pole in the A-Main and led every lap for the win.

October 15, 2005 ~
ParkerStore driver Kyle Larson opened the Red Bluff Winter Indoor Season with a sixth place finish in the 500cc Open Intermediate Divisio10-15-05-kl2.jpg (54472 bytes)n A-Main event. Larson, due to a rule change allowing a driver to only compete in one division, won the B-main to transfer into the feature race which was contested on a very dry slick surface making advancement to the front difficult.

October 8, 2005 ~ Chico, CA – ParkerStore Outlaw Sprint Kart Driver Kyle Larson closed the Cycleland Speedway in spectacular fashion Saturday with his tenth win in the Intermediate 125/250cc Division while also garnering a second place finish in the 500cc Open Division nightcap. Larson qualified second quick in the 125/250 division and in the 500 division for the second week in a row, flirted with the all time track record of 10.201, this time turning a lap of 10.271 on a rubber down daytime surface. The day’s races featured 100 lap main events prior to the awards banquet that saw Larson crowned as champion in both the Intermediate 125/250 and 500cc Open Intermediate Divisions.

October 1, 2005 ~ LARSON WINS TWO DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIPS AT CYCLELAND SPEEDWAY!
Click for Larger ImageKyle Larson enjoyed one of his finest night’s in his six year racing career as he captured both the Intermediate 125/250cc and the 500cc Open Intermediate point championships at Cycleland Speedway Saturday October 1st. He also set the qualifying track record with a 10.237 in the 500cc Open Intermediates, breaking the two year old standard by 3/10ths of a second and narrowly missing the all time track record of 10.201. All Larson had to do to win the 125/250 championship was to qualify for the A-Main and he started the night with second fast time in the 29 kart field. He wouldn’t settle for just that as he drove to his ninth 125/250 main event win of the season at the 1/6 mile speedplant and brought home the six foot perpetual trophy for the second year. In the Open Intermediate division the championship was still up for grabs as Larson held a narrow 13 point lead over Mason Moore. Larson drove a second place finish to secure the championship as Moore finished seventh. Congratulations for an outstanding year at Cycleland Speedway!

September 24, 2005 ~ Chico, CA - Going into this race Kyle was leading the 500cc Open Intermediate division by 1 point over Keith Bloom and 30 over Mason Moore. Kyle only qualified 10th quick as his motor mount broke so he missed the dash, but he did win the 2nd heat. This put him outside the front row of the A-main. Kyle got the lead on the start and lead every lap with Moore finishing 2nd. Bloom exited the track when his exhaust pipe disconnected and was scored 18th. Kyle now leads Moore by 13 and Bloom by 26 points heading into the last point race next week.
         9-24-05cycleland_2564.jpg (74967 bytes)
The Intermediate 125/250 division saw Kyle qualify 3rd out of the 27 karts on hand. Kyle won the trophy dash and this put him inside the 3rd row of the A-main. In what became one of the best races ever seen at Cycleland, Kyle, Colby Copeland and Moore waged a torrid battle in heavy traffic over the last half of the race. Although Kyle led at the white flag lapped traffic proved his undoing as Copeland won and Moore made a last lap pass to finish second. Even finishing behind Moore Kyle was able to increase his point lead by one over Moore to 62.

September 17, 2005 ~
Returning to Cycleland Speedway after having last Saturday off for Chico’s World of Outlaws Gold Cup Race of Champions, Kyle set fast time with a 10.773 in the Intermediate 125/250cc division over the 29 karts on hand. Kyle started last in the 6 kart trophy dash and finished 2nd behind Colby Cope9-17-05Cycleland_2319.jpg (81890 bytes)land. In the A-main event Kyle started 6th in the 22 kart field and with 3 laps to go Kyle took the lead from Mason Moore. In the 500cc Open Intermediate division Kyle qualified 2nd quick of the 30 present with a 10.623. In the trophy dash coming out of turn 4 on lap 5 Colby Copeland and Kyle had contact and Kyle rolled to a stop in turn 1.  Kyle was towed off the track and it was found he had a bent spindle and broken tie rod end. After repairs were made Kyle started 10th in the 22 kart and was able to work his way to a 2nd place finish behind Keith Bloom.

September 6, 2005 ~
Cycleland Speedway staged its annual Outlaw Kart Showcase race on Tuesday night to take advantage of the huge traveling crowd in town for the World of Outlaw race in Chico. The Intermediate 125/250cc division had a solid 25 kart turnout for the midweek race. Kyle Larson turned quick time with an 11.542 lap and the top ten earned starting slots in the dash that determined the starting order for the front five rows in the 20 lap feature. The dash was completely inverted, but Larson turned heads as he came from the fifth row to the lead in less than five laps and won by over two seconds ahead of Colby Copeland. Larson ran a 10.570 best in the dash and Copeland clicked off a 10.781. That earned Larson and Copeland the front row for the 20 lapper. Larson took a quick lead over Copeland in the feature. Larson lead every lap until a spin in turn three brought out a yellow light on lap 19 and the infield workers were waving their arms for the karts to slow down. Larson, Thomas Bruckenstein and third place Kenny Allen all slowed, but the flagman threw a white flag.  Jake Cartwright had passed everyone before the leaders realized what was happening and resumed racing and went on to the confusing victory. Bruckenstein never got back to speed and Allen was able to salvage second ahead of Mason Moore, Alissa Geving and the highly disappointed Larson.

The Open Division saw Larson qualify 10th quick out of the 39 karts in attendance. The completely inverted 10 kart trophy dash saw Larson start on the pole with Silver Dollar Speedway & Golden State Challenge Series Champion Sean Becker on the outside of the front row. Larson won with a best lap of 10.361 to earn the pole for the 25 lapper. On the start of the Open main Larson had fallen to 5th with Becker taking the lead. Larson was able to retake second on lap two with Tyler Wolf into third. Wolf nosed ahead of Larson for second on lap 3, but Larson again retook the spot on lap 4. A yellow came out on lap 9 for a spun kart and Larson lined up behind Becker on the restart. On the restart Larson went low as Becker went high in turn one and two. Becker pulled ahead of Larson as they crossed the flagstand. Once again the duo went into turn 1 & 2 with Larson low and Becker high. This time they went side by side for the full lap around the track. As they entered turn 1 again Larson pulled in front of Becker and began to pull away. But as he went into turn 3 Larson’s chain came off and Becker had nowhere to go and got collected up. Larson pulled off the track and was done for the night while Becker restarted and came back to a 7th place finish behind the eventual winner Brett Miller, who collected the $1,000.00 purse.

Former sprint car driver Tim Green's son, Nick Green, jumped into an outlaw kart for the first time and had a blast racing the 500cc Open Outlaw Kart at Cycleland Speedway Showcase Race.  Nick competes in the California Asphalt Sprint Association-CASA www.casaracing.com and is currently 3rd in their point standings. Hope to see Nick in an outlaw kart again.

August 10-12, 2005~
Kyle Larson had an incredible week at the inaugural Knoxville Outlaw Dirt Kart Nationals as he became both the 500cc Open division and 125cc division champions. He capped off his final day performance by nearly catching Mason Moore before settling for second in the 250cc division. The Open division victory was the most significant achievement in the 13 year old Elk Grove, California, driver’s six year career as he carried his severely damaged kart from fourth place to a last lap three inch victory over Tyler Wolf. click on ParkerStore Articles click here

July 20th ~
LARSON COMPETES IN RED BULL DRIVER SEARCH  Boston, MA – ParkerStore driver Kyle Larson competed July 20th in the East Coast Run-Offs of the Red Bull Driver Search in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts. The track named F1 Outdoors, about one half-hour south of Boston, was the site of the Run-Offs, held under very hot, humid conditions.

Ninety-eight drivers from the eastern half of the United States, and western based Larson, made a total of 99 racers. Larson was accepted into the East Coast Run-Offs as he could not appear at the West Coast portion of the driver search August 10-12th at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California as he would be racing in the Outlaw Sprint Kart Nationals in Knoxville, Iowa at that time.

The competition in the East Coast Run-Offs proved tough as several factors worked against the drivers with no experience in road course type racing. Probably four-fifths of the drivers assembled came from that form of racing and many had competed at the F1 Outdoors track many times, including several drivers who were in the Red Bull Driver Search at the track for their second or third time. The only drivers allowed any practice time on the sign in day, July 19th, were drivers who had qualified for the search at Indoor Centers but who had never actually competed in racing events, of which there were less than 10 of those drivers there.

At the driver’s meeting it was stated the first day activities would include two ten lap practice sessions and two ten lap timed qualifying rounds and times would be the sole criteria for moving on to the racing events on Thursday. In literature sent to each driver it was declared that up to 50% of the field would be eliminated at the end of the first day. But at the driver’s meeting the number became two-thirds that would be eliminated, while the actual number ended up being thirty that would move on.

The first practice session started nearly an hour late and took almost two hours for the ten groups to complete. At the end of the first practice session it was announced that the second session would be eliminated and the qualifying sessions would be cut to seven and five laps, which in the process made the chances nearly impossible of a non road course racer to advance with so little track time.

Although Larson’s best time placed him approximately 40th in the final rundown it was not enough to move on in the event. However, he did outrun some of the best road course racers in the Eastern United States and he also outdid two well known and accomplished sprint car drivers, Kevin Swindell and Cameron Dodson. Larson’s best time was only nine tenths of a second behind the fastest time posted and he was one of only a few drivers who posted their best lap in the second session, when the track conditions slowed due to the extreme afternoon heat.

At the conclusion of the activities Larson said, “It’s a little disappointing the way the whole event turned out. It seemed to have a lot of delays and that really hurt some of the drivers like me that needed as much track time as we could get. Twenty-two total laps wasn’t a lot to get up to speed against these road course guys. But I am pleased with how well I did. I think being less that a second behind the fastest guy is something to be proud of. I do think what Red Bull is doing is great for young racers in America and I hope to compete in it again next year, only next time I hope I can do it at Infineon Raceway. Also, the best part about this was meeting people from different parts of the country. Kevin Swindell was great. My parents couldn’t be in the pits with me so Kevin took me under his wing and he was a lot of fun to be with. He even went with us to a big midget and modified race at Seekonk Speedway Wednesday night and he was so c7-16-05DashAndreaKyleAshley.jpg (120766 bytes)ool – it seemed like we’ve been friends for a long time.”

June 1, 2005 ~
Kyle is on his way to Boston in July for the Red Bull Driver Search.  Since the West Coast Run Off is the same week in August as the Knoxville Outlaw Kart Nationals Kyle could not compete at Infineon Raceway for Red Bull Driver Search.   After coming home from Medford on the Memorial Weekend we received a letter from Red Bull saying Kyle would be allowed to compete in Boston for the East Coast Run Off.  It also said we would have to fax our confirmation form to them by June 1st.  This gave us little time to discuss what we should do.  We made a few calls to see if there could be any additional funding to make this trip possible.  This trip has become a reality but it was only accomplished with the help of some very SPECIAL people who believe in Kyle’s abilities.

We would like to give a SPECIAL THANKS to Bill Bell - Care-Free Pools, Benny Brown- Corning Ford Mercury – Kia, Garth Moore – Moore Insurance and Financial Services, Dan & Laurel Belton – Del’s Machine Shop, ParkerStore, RPM - Indoor Kart Racing and Grandpa Lary and Grandma Patty Larson.

Kyle is very excited to attend the Boston East Coast Run Off in July.  He will be competing at F1 Outdoors www.f1outdoors.com on July 19th, 20th, 21st.

April 29 & 30, 2005 ~ Kyle raced at Southern Oregon Speedway on Friday night and won the 500 Open Intermediate main event and also competed in the 125 division. He flipped going for the lead in the 125 kart.  He went end over end a couple of times but never touched the wing and hardly damaged the kart. He was ok.  Saturday he competed at Cycleland Speedway for their 1st point race of the season.  Kyle swept the 125/250 division, fast time, won the dash and main event.  He also competed in the 500 open intermediate division as he again set fast time, finished 4th in the dash and won the main event.  A very good weekend for Kyle.

~ Kyle participated in the opening round of the Red Bull Driver Search at RPM - Indoor Kart Racing www.raceplacemotorsports.com Tuesday night, April 26th and qualified for the RPM finals that will take place this Sunday, May 1st.  Click Here for Photos The Red Bull Driver search is an inspired vision to launch American racecar drivers into Formula 1 and ultimately to create the first ever All-American Formula 1 Team.  Kyle competed against drivers 13 to 17 years of age and most all have attained significant success in road course kart racing, unlike Kyle's dirt oval background.  Kyle's performance was outstanding as he broke the all time track record on the No Fear Track and beat his nearest competitor by 3 tenths of a second, a very large margin on such a short track.  Kyle will now compete against 15 other drivers on Sunday, May 1st and if he finishes in the top 3 he will advance to the next round at Infineon Raceway (formerly Sears Point) in August.
